One of 2024’s Best RPGs is Now Available on Game Pass
Less than 9 months after its release, the latest JRPG from Atlus has made its way to Xbox Game Pass in what has been quite a shock for fans. Metaphor: ReFantazio came out last year to critical and commercial success thanks to its heavy Persona influence and innovations on the JRPG genre like the ability to completely bypass weaker enemies outside of turn based combat. Advancements to the calendar-based system of Persona also made Metaphor an instant hit for JRPG fans.

Unlike the Persona series (which Metaphor is heavily based on), ReFantazio instead sees the player traverse across the country in order to gain enough support to become the next leader of the land. This big story departure allowed for more mature themes as well as more fantastical elements that allows Metaphor to stand out from its contemporaries while maintaining the addictive Persona DNA that Atlus excels at.
If you have yet to play Metaphor: ReFantazio, the game is now available via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate- very soon after its release (especially for a third party AAA game). Do keep in mind that this continent spanning turn based adventure is likely to take you at least 100 hours to beat so take that into account if you do decide to check this one out.

Still, if you’re a Persona fan or are just interested in JRPGs in general, Metaphor: ReFantazio is a must play and is heralded by many as one of the best JRPGs of modern years. If you’re still reeling after completing Expedition 33, Metaphor could fill that gap for you. Its available right now for all Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.
