Lies of P: Overture Available Now
In what was one of the more surprising reveals of Summer Games Fest, DLC for the excellent Lies of P was shadow dropped the same day. We already knew about the souls like’s expansion titled ‘Overture’ but we didn’t have any sort of release date or window. With the DLC being made available on the same day, fans scrambled to experience more of what many consider to be the best in the Soulslike genre after FromSoftware’s efforts.
Overture has received strong critical reception. Its currently sitting at an 83 on Opencritic- very similar to what the base game received (which does seem criminally low). Its got a mostly positive 75% on Steam but this seems to be mainly due to the price for playtime (£25 for around 10 hours of content), which some feel to be quite low. The DLC itself apparently has great lore, bosses and environment. Essentially, Overture is more of the base game for a slightly higher price point than many would have expected.
The parry-based combat is back as Overture promises more areas, intricate new weapons and, of course, harder bosses. If it didn’t have enough before, this expansion really leans into the game’s Bloodborne comparisons with a greater focus on monsters compared to the mechanical and puppet focus of the base game. Luckily, Pinocchio has a whole arsenal of new weapons to tear apart these creatures- adding even greater depth to the build variety from the main game.
If you’re interested, you can pick up Lies of P: Overture (as well as its bundle with the base game) now on Xbox, PS5 and PC. The base game is also still on Game Pass if you didn’t want to fork out for the full amount just to play the expansion. As for the expansion alone, its being sold for £24.99. Whether that price is justified for a 10 hour playtime depends on how invested you are in the world of Krat and Pinocchio.
