Ghost of Yotei Coming Early Next Month
The sequel to the massively praised Ghost of Tsushima, ;Yotei’ is set to launch on October 2nd- over 5 years since its predecessor. The game was first announced last year with a cinematic trailer showcasing a new area, main character and time period to spice up the gameplay. Since then, we’ve heard a lot more on the game and, if its trailers are anything to go by, it seems to be a massive step up from the original ‘Tsushima’.
Sucker Punch have not been shy when showing off Ghost of Yotei. In nearly any showcase that PlayStation has been a part of, we’ve seen some part of this game. In fact, a dedicated State of Play just for the game, we got to see a lot more of what makes ‘Yotei’ special. New traversal abilities, weapons besides just a Samurai sword and even a wolf companion see main character Atsu lean more into the assassin fantasy than even Jin in the first game.
In terms of story, Ghost of Yotei sees Atsu seek her revenge on the men who burned her home to the ground and left her for dead as a child. Using the same sword that almost killed her, she’s now hunting down those who destroyed her life. Sucker Punch have confirmed that there will be a set narrative- meaning seeking out targets out of order isn’t an option here. This should lend itself to a stronger narrative, though.
The review embargo for Ghost of Yotei is set to lift on September 25th, a week before the game launches. This shows a high level of confidence from Sucker Punch- even moreso considering their presence in showcases up to this point. The press for this release isn’t over just yet, however, as Ghost of Yotei will be making another appearance at Tokyo Games Show later this month. You can pick up this release on October 2nd- exclusively for PS5.
