The Crew 2 Will Live On in Much Requested Offline Mode

After constant requests from fans and pressure from the Stop Killing Games movement, Ubisoft have finally taken steps to aid games preservation- namely for The Crew 2, which had its predecessor become completely inaccessible after it went offline in 2024. The Crew 2 was initially going to face the same shutdown but, thanks to a new update launched on October 16th, it will continue to be playable for years to come.

This new ‘hybrid mode’ will allow players to access the game offline via a new save file or by transferring their existing online save file to an offline version. Whilst servers remain online for now, this will finally allow players to play most of what The Crew 2 has to offer without the need for a constant internet connection. Multiplayer modes and trophies will not be accessible via the offline mode, however.

It’s unclear as to whether Ubisoft will implement a similar hybrid mode to other games in their library that could one day become inaccessible. This includes For Honor and The Divion series. Considering the huge amount of backlash and support for the Stop Killing Games movement, however, studios and publishers are being put under increasingly high scrutiny when it comes to them pulling the plug on online games.
