The Game Awards Scheduled for December 11th
The 11th annual Game Awards have now received a confirmed date as well as venue. Taking place on December 11th at the Peacock theatre, this show will not only award the best of the best releases of 2025 but will also have a bunch of new reveals for upcoming games from next year and beyond.
Nominees for each category have yet to be revealed but these should become open to voting in mid-November. Do keep in mind, however, that fan votes only make up 10% of the result (except for the community vote) with 90% coming from a conglomerate of those within the gaming industry. Expect to see returning categories including best narrative, soundtrack, family game and the illustrious game of the year.
As to which games will be nominated for the main award, the competition this year is fierce. There’s been a bunch of heavy hitters with Expedition 33, Death Stranding 2 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 being highly regarded by players. Indies have also had a massive year- with the likes of Hades 2, Hollow Knight Silksong and Blue Prince all likely in the running for Indie game of the year or even the main category.
Small teams have achieved a lot this year and its why 2025 is likely to be the year where we see several indies within the main game of the year category. We did see this with card-based roguelike Balatro being in the running for 2024 game of the year but the last 12 months have seen even more innovation and impressive projects from smaller studios.
