Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 Receives Strong Critical Reception
Ahead of its launch later this week, the remakes of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 have received some pretty great first impressions from reviewers. Critics currently place the game at a mighty 85 on aggregate site Opencritic. Although below the 1 + 2 collection in terms of review scores, this is still quite an impressive feat- especially considering that these remakes were made from the ground up specifically for modern consoles.

When Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 were initially launched as a package back in 2020, many were wondering if the 3rd and 4th games respectively would be remastered in their own way in the form of DLC or new games. Instead of taking the easy route, however, the developers at Iron Galaxy decided to recreate 3 and 4 entirely from the ground up- cementing it as a full blown remake rather than just an upscaled release.
It seems like this hard work paid off with NintendoWorldReport giving the game an impressive 9/10 score with the following write up:
“I'm thrilled that the skateboarding in this game feels just as good as it did 20+ years ago and that this goes beyond just a simple remake, with so many fun and enjoyable post-game challenges that builds off of the foundation.”
IGN were similarly impressed- giving it an 8/10 while being slightly more critical of some reworked aspects:
“Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 proves yet again the series’ over-the-top skateboarding formula is totally timeless, even if some of the changes to THPS4 miss the mark and the soundtrack has been fumbled.”
It seems that, if you’re looking to play these games for the first time or want to revisit them, these remakes may very well be the definitive versions with improved gameplay, additional content and meaningful changes to the base games. If you’re interested, you can pick up Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 on all major consoles (including Nintendo Switch) when it launches on July 11th. Its also launching for a reduced price point of £40- a fantastic deal considering the two fully remade games included in the package.
