Second Gears of War Remake Coming to PlayStation
The second of Xbox’s big first party franchises is coming to PlayStation later this year. Gears of War: Reloaded is a remaster of the 2025 classic and is set for both an Xbox, PC and PS5 launch this August. This follows on from the Forza Horizon series, as the 5th game in that franchise came to PlayStation 5 users earlier this year. As many have suspected, this seems to be opening the floodgates of other first party Xbox releases making their way to other consoles besides PC.
Gears of War: Reloaded is a second remaster of the original Gears of War and works more as an expansion of its first remaster (titled ‘Gears of War Ultimate’ rather than a full remake. This version is set to have 4k support, a 120fps option, HDR and a whole host of graphical and performance improvements. If you already own Ultimate edition digitally, this will be a free upgrade for players- as well as being available day one on Game Pass.
This remastered upgrade of the original game may be a ploy from Xbox to drum up interest in the dormant franchise since last year’s announcement of Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel to the main trilogy. There’s no concrete release date or window for this set yet but we’ll likely see more news on this arise from an Xbox showcase coming this June.
If you’re worried about starting over or not being able to play with friends, Gears of War Reloaded is set to have full cross-progression and cross-play. This means that PS5 players will be able to play online with Xbox players in an Xbox first party release. There also won’t be the requirement to create a Microsoft account for this one. If you’re interested, Gears of War Reloaded is set to launch on August 26th later this year.
