Hollow Knight: Silksong Gets a Release Date (Really)
After eight years of waiting (and the community going completely insane), Hollow Knight Silksong has finally received a release date: September 4th 2025. This comes after multiple years of radio silence from Team Cherry who, instead of revealing this as part of a big showcase like Gamescom, decided to just drop it onto their own YouTube channel. This goes to show the immense popularity and hype behind Hollow Knight’s successor when it uses the same marketing strategy as GTA VI.
Alongside the release date that is now under two weeks away, we also got a new trailer showing some of the most extensive Silksong footage we’ve seen thus far. New combat abilities, bosses and a completely new map where you ascend to the top of an unknown world alone make Silksong look like a worthy successor. On top of this, the addition of Hornet (the player character) now having voice lines, proper side quests and a fully revamped charm system shows us what Team Cherry have been working on for so long.

In a Bloomberg interview that dropped shortly after the announcement trailer, Team Cherry spoke about their main motivation for taking so long on the game: fun. Simply put, they enjoyed adding new ideas and concepts to the game so much, they continued in spite of how many years it was taking. Of course, the insanity of the game’s community at receiving next to no news on the game likely added to the enjoyment of the developers.
Steam keys for early backers of Hollow Knight (who were promised a second playable character over 8 years ago) will be sent out ready for release. Team Cherry have confirmed, however, that no review copies will be sent out since they want everyone to enjoy the game as it releases. With the game still coming to Game Pass, you can check out one of the most anticipated games of all time when it launches on September 4th. Of course, its also available on all other major platforms.
