Expedition 33 Sales Numbers Just Keep Rising
In a happy coincidence, Expedition 33 managed to sell 3.33 million copies within 33 days of its launch (according to an announcement via their BlueSky account). That’s an outstanding achievement from a debut game from a relatively small studio. Sandfall Games managed to beat the odds and create a release that is not only currently the best reviewed game of the year but has also sold phenomenally well.
The French belle-epoque inspired JRPG captured a lot of attention when it was first revealed last year due to its captivating characters, intriguing premise around a paintress of death and turn based combat with implemented dodging, parrying and timing required to do maximum damage. Although incredibly ambitious, thankfully, all of these elements came together for the game’s release as Expedition 33 is already being deemed one of the best JRPGs of all time.
What’s even more impressive about the game’s fantastic sales numbers is that it was released day one on Xbox Game Pass. Those 3.33 million copies (likely substantially higher now) don’t account for players on Game Pass. Realistically, when taking into account sales information and players on that service, over 5 million people have played Expedition 33- an achievement almost completely unparalleled for such a niche release. This is especially impressive considering other JRPGs released by much larger studios (like Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor ReFantazio) only sold a fraction of that.
If the glowing reviews and incredibly impressive sales numbers aren’t evidence enough, Expedition 33 is a masterpiece that is a must play for all gamers- even those not completely invested in JRPGs. Hopefully, Sandfall Interactive are able to take the experience and profit they made from Expedition 33 and make another once in a lifetime release when it comes to their next project.
