Ghost of Yotei Confirmed for an October 2nd Release
In an out of nowhere announcement, Sucker Punch and PlayStation have confirmed that the sequel to 2020’s ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ is set to launch later this year on October 2nd. ‘Ghost of Yotei’ follows a new protagonist in a completely new location. A shiny new trailer was also shown off those details how much of a step up ‘Yotei’ is set to be compared to its predecessor.

In the latest information dump courtesy of PlayStation Blog, we know that the story will follow Atsu in a tale of vengeance. After her family was murdered, she uses the same katana that pinned her to a burning tree when she was a child to hunt down the six mysterious figures responsible. It’s a story of revenge set in the northern region of Hokkaido in mainland Japan. That means that we’ll be seeing grassy fields, cherry blossoms and, of course, beautifully snowy tundra.
The Oni, Spider, Snake, Kitsune, Dragon and Lord Saito are the targets you’ll be hunting down and, according to the PlayStation blog announcement, players will have full freedom to track down leads to find these targets in any order they choose. There are also additional bounties that imply that Yotei will be leaning far more into the stealth/assassination area of gameplay compared to the samurai-centric original.

Another interesting mechanic that has been revealed is the ability to create a campfire at any point on the map. What gameplay function this serves (or if this is simply an immersion feature) remains to be revealed. You can pre-order Ghost of Yotei exclusively for PS5 from May 2nd- 5 months ahead of its launch on October 2nd. It’s set to be available on both physical and digital storefronts.
