Halo Campaign Remake Announced for 2026 Release

After some online speculation, Microsoft have now confirmed the existence of a remake for the original Halo game. This remake of Halo: Combat Evolved will be titled ‘Halo: Campaign Evolved’ and will only remake the original campaign mode from the first game. It’s the second time we’ve seen this remade after 2011’s Anniversary edition. It has been 14 years since that release, however, so another remake makes some amount of sense.

One part about this announcement that has pricked some ears was the confirmation that the remake would be coming to PlayStation 5 alongside the expected Xbox and PC releases. This is the first time the series is making its way to PlayStation and is another step in Microsoft’s multi-platform strategy for their major franchises.

This comes after the first Gears of War game got the remake treatment earlier this year (which also came to PS5). Xbox President Sarah Bond recently told the press that “the biggest games in the world are available everywhere… the idea of locking to one store or one device is antiquated for most people.” Considering how many exclusive releases PlayStation and Xbox continue to make, however, this viewpoint doesn’t seem to be shared by Xbox’s competitors.

One piece of news that Halo fans will appreciate is that the remake will feature split screen co-op, which hasn’t been available in a campaign since Halo 4. Hopefully, this means that future entries in the series will continue with this model but, considering how this mode was cancelled for ‘Infinite’, it’s not too likely.

Of course, being only the campaign, no multiplayer elements will be included in this package. An exact release date and price have yet to be revealed.
