Nintendo Switch 2 Reaches 10 Million Consoles Sold in 4 Months

In what has proven to be a massive success for Nintendo, the Switch 2 has managed to sell phenomenally well. Hitting 10 million consoles sold in its first 4 months in the market, this not only exceeded Nintendo’s expectations but also breaks the record set by the original Switch- which sold just under half in the same time. As a result of this news, Nintendo has upped its sales projection from 15 million in its first year to now 19 million.

Over 20 million Switch 2 first party games have also been sold- with half of those coming from Mario Kart World and another 4 million being the result of Donkey Kong Bananza. Nintendo have also increased its projected games sold to 48 million in its first year- showing confidence in its upcoming releases.

This comes at the same time as the original Switch reaching over 154 million consoles sold. This brings it closer and closer to the PlayStation 2 (which sold 160 million) as the best selling console of all time. It has already surpassed the Nintendo DS as the second best selling console (and it now sits as the best handheld with it being a hybrid offering).

With Kirby Air Riders, a new Hyrule Warriors and the latest Fire Emblem coming to the Switch 2 in the coming months, there’s quite a line up that’s sure to bring old and new fans in alike. This is especially true considering the upcoming holiday season and the potential massive increase in sales around Christmas. Whether the Nintendo Switch 2 can maintain its initial massive appeal remains to be seen.
